SA1 • French Basket

Pattern Fee: $5.00

Appliqué this 1920's style basket and fill it with ruched flowers. Learn strip ruching for the basket handle and circular ruching for two sizes of flowers. Finish with embroidery in chain and daisy stitch.

Supply List:

• 13” background fabric (will finish 12” square)
• Fabric for basket: 9” square plus a 1¼” x 24” strip.
• Fabric for flowers: five 5” squares; three 2½” squares
• Small amount for leaves
• Quilting thread to match flower colors
• Sewing thread to match basket and leaves
• Embroidery floss to match leaves
• Template material - freezer paper or plastic
• RucheMark Standard Ruching Guide and RucheMark Circular Ruching Guide. Guides will be available for purchase in class - $12.00 each.
• Needles: sharps or Milliner for appliqué; embroidery

SA4 • Focus On Fabric

Discover a new way to work with yukatas, batiks and other large-scale figurative prints. Let the fabric tell you how to use it! Traditional piecing and simple appliqué come together to create a one-of-a-kind art quilt.

Supply List:


• ½ - 1 yard focus fabric - a large scale picture print; look at Kona Bay, Alexander Henry, Japanese yukata. Piece should contain three to six design motifs, or one major and several minor motifs which can easily be isolated from each other.
• 1 yard each of several colors which coordinate with the focus fabric - textured prints, marbled, hand dyed, batik or other fabric for background and borders.
• Threads for machine piecing background fabrics and for hand appliqué of focus fabric.
• Sewing machine.
• Fabric marking pencil.
• BCT, BSS with appliqué needles.
• Regular pencil and eraser.
• Graph paper; freezer paper.
• “Basic Shapes” template, $7.00, others will be available for purchase in class. Optional: specialty rulers or templates for cutting triangles and other shapes
