Learn this Totally Tubular and totally fun strip-piecing technique to easily
piece intricate mirror image designs without the use of templates or paper. Sew
fabric strips into tubes. Cut these tubes into more strips and Rita will guide
you for sewing them back together, to create interesting geometric patterns.
It is easier than it looks. Working in mirror image opens a completely new range
of options for quilts, borders, kaleidoscopes and garments. There is an element
of surprise making it very fun and rewarding. Techniques can be used to make
traditional or contemporary patterns. This is a process oriented class.

Supply List:
• Sewing machine and BSS.
• Marking pencils for light and dark fabrics, pencil sharpener
• BCT, size L. Ruler with 30°, 45° and 60° markings.
• A 45° kaleidoscope wedge if you have one.
• 6-8 fabrics into ½ yard pieces cut the full width (42”).
Up to ¾ yard of the fabrics you may want to use more of.
• Fabric Tips: small prints, solid or almost solid make the patterns
stand out. Bring all values from very light (white if you like) to very
dark (black if you like). Include at least two color families, at least
1 zinger and 1 striped fabric. Wash and iron fabrics folded in half selvedge
to selvedge.
• To save precious class time, there is homework of cutting and sewing.

Tubular: Triangles

Learn this fun new strip-piecing technique and get over your fear of the bias.
Sew fabric strips into tubes. Cut these tubes into more strips and Rita will
guide you for sewing them back together to easily create yards and yards of triangles
any size any angle, without the use of paper or templates. Begin by easily piecing
Half Square Triangles and Sawtooth Borders. Then move on to Flying Geese and
right triangles as well as 30°, 45° and 60° triangles. Explore unique
ways to cut and use these triangles to create other intricate geometric designs
including stars. Create pieces of “fabric” that can become a border,
block, small quilt, several blocks or a garment. Techniques learned in this class
will greatly enhance your vocabulary of quilting of techniques, whether you are
a traditional or art quilter. This is a process oriented class. Lots if information,
samples and ideas will be provided.
