Hello,
Let me be the first to welcome and introduce you to the Glendale Quilt Guild.
We trust your association with our Guild will be a most enjoyable, educational and rewarding experience. I have summarized information that will give you an idea of what our Guild is all about. When you complete a membership application and pay your dues, the Membership Committee will supply you with a membership card, badge, roster and bylaws.
If you have any questions, please ask any active member or me. Remember, the more you participate in our activities, the more you will gain from being a member of the Guild.
Again, welcome to the Glendale Quilt Guild.

The Glendale Quilt Guild is a nonprofit corporation organized for educational and charitable purposes. Some of its purposes are:
• to contribute to the knowledge of and to promote the appreciation of fine quilts and quilt making,
• to sponsor and support quilting activities,
• to gain knowledge of quilting techniques, patterns and history of quilt making through educational meetings, travel and friendship. |

The Guild meets the second Wednesday of each month at
the:
Central Library of Glendale
222 East Harvard Street
Glendale, CA
6:30 pm to 9:00 pm
Special meetings are held three times a year. June is our annual business meeting, August is our summer “picnic in the library” and December is our annual holiday party. We encourage all of our members to attend these functions. |

As you enter the 2nd floor room of the library, please sign in at our membership table. Our Membership Committee will be there to greet you. We ask that you wear your name badge to each meeting so it will be easier for everyone to get to know your name. Wearing your name badge makes you eligible for our door prize drawing. Obtain your ticket for the door prize drawing as you sign in. Also near the membership
table you will find information for events of interest to quilters.
We begin the evening with a short business meeting. During the meeting we have announcements of interest to the membership regarding future programs, workshops, bus trips and quilt show meetings. We also set aside time for “Show and Tell” so that our members may show their work. We encourage everyone to share his or her work with us.
We attempt to keep the business portion of the meeting to a minimum. Board meetings take care of most of the Guild’s business.
Following the business meeting, we adjourn for refreshments and social time. Our Hospitality Chair will keep you informed through the newsletter when it is your turn to provide refreshments.
After the break we have our program for the month. Often this will be a well-known speaker and/or slide show. Sometimes, we have “hands-on” demonstrations by some of our talented members. Members also work on quilts for the Loving Hands Community Projects such as women’s shelters, battered and abused children’s shelters, AIDS hospices and homeless families. You are invited to join this group during their work sessions – just look for notices in our Newsletter.
The Guild actively supports various educational and civic groups to further the promotion of quilting educational and also provides quilts to charities in need. These recipients may be nominated by members and are chosen by membership voting. |

Our only fund raising project is our annual quilt show; it is held in March of each year. We rely totally on funds made from the quilt show to run our Guild and finance our philanthropy projects. The only requirement for renewing your membership each year is that you work for the quilt show a minimum of two hours in some capacity. There are many tasks that need to be done to put on this show. Your membership application lists many of these tasks. |

The Glendale Quilt Guild believes that Friendship Groups are a vital part of the tradition of quiltmaking. Those of us fortunate enough to be members of a friendship group can attest to the valuable experience shared around a table of quilters.
A friendship group is made up of four to ten quilters who generally live in the same geographical area and who meet at the homes of members once a week, bimonthly or monthly, whatever is decided by the group. Being part of a friendship group enables members to work on individual projects, make group projects, exchange blocks or fabric, become involved in a challenge project or carpool to quilt shows and new fabric shops. Getting to know other Guild members and sharing ideas and techniques are just two benefits of belonging to a friendship group. |
