robappell.com

Rob Appell is the surfer that makes beautiful Seascape quilts! Rob added a series of quilts featuring Endangered Animals. He started working in his mother’s quilt shop – “The Cotton Ball” in Morro Bay, CA. He became a quilter shortly after they became Pfaff sewing machine dealers. He first made about thirty aloha shirts, which yielded a fantastic wardrobe and a ton of scraps, mostly batik and fl oral. His second quilt was the hit – “The Dolphin Dance” an easy strip pieced quilt that has sold over 600 patterns in the store and countless kits. He caught the quilt pox and was never cured.

Teacher

Eha, Nancy
Beading
NANCY EHA RETURNING TO THE GLENDALE QUILT SHOW
www.beadcreative.com

Nancy’s classes were a sell out at the 2009 show, in fact had waiting lists, so we asked her to return for our 2010 show.  Nancy Eha is in high demand as an instructor, she makes learning fun, encourages confidence in students of all skill levels, and makes the seemingly complex easy to understand via small teachable steps.   Students that took her classes loved Nancy’s style as an instructor and feel they learned so much that they have said they would take her class again. That is a strong endorsement for any teacher!

Nancy will be offering her Crazy Beading class again.  This class had a waiting list 30 days after registration opened.   She will also teach one other all day class and 2 half-day classes on beading at our show.  Sign up early.  Don’t wait or you will lose your opportunity to add a new dimension to your quilts!

Hargrave, Harriet

harriethargrave.com

Harriet comes from a family of quilters. Her mother tried to teach her to hand quilt in the early ‘70s, but to no avail. Harriet mastered machine embroidery in the mid-1970s, and adapted machine quilting from there. She was machine quilting when the local quilt guilds thought machine piecing was not kosher, let alone machine quilting! In 1983, Harriet’s antique reproduction pieces were recognized for how hand quilted they appeared. In 1994 a panel of her peers chose Harriet as one of the 88 Leaders of the Quilt World and in 2006 was nominated for Professional Quilter’s Teacher of the Year. Harriet is a master at teaching students “how to learn to machine quilt”.

Roberta studied antique scrap quilts for fabric usage and Amish quilts for color. Her horizons widened as she discovered fabrics from Africa, Japan and Australia. Studying African-American quilts taught her how to build a quilt in a new way. In 1994 she was recognized as one of the 88 most influential quiltmakers in the world and in 2000 received the Silver Star Award by the International Quilt Association.

Williams, Sheila
sheilawilliams.com

Sheila is a computer and quilting software consultant and has been quilting for a long time. She learned to use the computer while she was in the United States Marine Corps. While attending a quilting class the instructor taught how to use graph paper to make templates. Sheila spent her days working with graph paper and did not want to spend her leisure time looking at more graph paper. She set out on a mission to find a computer program to aid her in quilt designing. Then she started teaching her friends how to use the software pro- grams that they had purchased and never used. Sheila now teaches in the Southern California area. Her husband tells his friends “She has a laptop and will travel”.
