• Contemporary Quilts: Sandi Cummings
Sandi
Cummings, a contemporary quilter from Moraga, CA, is best known
for the vibrant, carefree use of color and lively movement in
her quilt designs. Her work has been juried into many art quilt
shows, including Visions, Women of Taste and Quilt National.
She has numerous pieces in both personal and corporate collections.
In addition to making art quilts, Sandi enjoys sharing her techniques,
which offer a bridge into the world of contemporary quilt making.
She emphasizes experimentation and encourages students to develop
original design concepts-all of this with the idea of working
hard but having fun. Sandi has a book out with C&T
Publishing entitled Thinking Outside the Block, which is
recommended for all classes and will be available for purchase.
Sandi’s philosophy on fabric selection is this: If you use
fabrics you really love, even when you are experimenting,
the commitment level is higher; you have a better chance of coming
up with something you would like to make into a finished quilt.

• Beading: Nancy Eha
Nancy Eha was reportedly born with a needle in her hand. After
exploring nearly every needle art, she began experimenting
with beads. Spending countless hours over many years asking creativity
stretching “What if?” questions
of beads, she continues to develop new innovative beading techniques
and create magical works of art. As an internationally recognized
artist, teacher, and author, Nancy shares her knowledge, passion,
and pleasure for the subject of beading with others. Nancy makes
learning fun, encourages confidence in students of all skill
levels, and makes the seemingly complex easy to understand via
small teachable steps. As she travels to present lectures and
workshops, Nancy is inspired by those she meets and is in continual
awe of what can be created by hand and needle.

• Machine
Quilting and Machine Appliqué:
Paula Reid
Often described as an “artist with a sewing machine”,
Paula Reid is a custom heirloom quilting specialist. Paula
is not a “formula quilter” - quilt in the ditch and
scatter little motifs here and there - but prefers to look at the
top as a whole and design a quilting plan to enhance the piecing. At
first, heirloom feathers and other intricate designs done
in free motion were her favorites, but she now finds herself
doing very contemporary work in novelty threads as well.
