< 2009 Quilt Show

2009 will mark the 400th anniversary
of Galileo’s first telescopic observations of the cosmos
.

In celebration of this anniversary, we chose “Cosmic Connections” as our quilt show and opportunity quilt theme. The Glendale Quilt Guild is proud to present the magnificent 94” by 120” reversible 2009 opportunity quilt, Cosmic Connections, juried into the Pacific International Quilt Festival October, 2008. The quilt features a wide variety of blue cosmic prints as a background for luminescent stars and fabulous spiral and sun-burst quilting. While two colors dominate, white star and dark blue background, there are splashes of warm yellow (like our Sun), hints of orange (think Mars), violet (a blue giant like Sirius) and slivers of red (like a carbon star). In the background blue, an occasional dab of deep garnets represents gas jettisoning from young energetic stars and teal indicates oxygen glowing in the remnants of a nova. Perfectly constructed with the various sized blocks joined in a pleasing layout and a spectacular piped binding, whether hanging straight or lying flat, this quilt will complement any room or décor.

Blocks by Lorelei Snee, Cathy McNassor, Olga Chasco, Marva Packey, Sky High Quilters (Ann Bagne, Lisa Burroughs, Joan Hutter, Colleen Shier, Masako G. Smith), Alice Turner, Violet Bos, Karen Millman, Susan Van De Vyvere, Pat Golditch, Esther Norbut, Corinne Gurney, Doralee Dohnel, Larita Bennett, Caren Ryan, Susan Williams, Leah Bessey, Ann Bayne, Barbara Dieges, and Judy Sellers. Block assembly, borders, piped binding, and pieced backing by Rasa Read. Quilting by Pat Rollie.

The drawing is on Sunday at 3:30 pm. You may order tickets by marking the number on the online Registration Form or in Section C on the printer friendly Registration Form. Follow the instructions for payment on the Registration Form.
