In celebration of this anniversary,
we chose “Cosmic Connections” as our quilt show and
opportunity quilt theme. The Glendale Quilt Guild is proud to present
the magnificent 94” by 120” reversible 2009 opportunity
quilt, Cosmic Connections, juried into the Pacific International
Quilt Festival October, 2008. The quilt features a wide variety
of blue cosmic prints as a background for luminescent stars and
fabulous spiral and sun-burst quilting. While two colors dominate,
white star and dark blue background, there are splashes of warm
yellow (like our Sun), hints of orange (think Mars), violet (a blue
giant like Sirius) and slivers of red (like a carbon star). In the
background blue, an occasional dab of deep garnets represents gas
jettisoning from young energetic stars and teal indicates oxygen
glowing in the remnants of a nova. Perfectly constructed with the
various sized blocks joined in a pleasing layout and a spectacular
piped binding, whether hanging straight or lying flat, this quilt
will complement any room or décor.
